4/22 Dominaria pre-release results

For the first time ever, I went to TWO pre-release events. Fabulous. there was a chance I was going to zero, but then the heavens opened up, and I got to go to both. Wootness.

My second card pool wasn't nearly as awesome as the first. I did have 6 different pieces of removal. So there is that. Some beat sticks, and some card filtering. Here is the team I assembled.

Only three rounds, each round win got you a pack. So splitting at 2-0 made no sense. Kinda cool.

I went 2-1... second round was the worst. First game was TOTAL mana screw. 7 cards, no land. 6 cards, no land. 5 cards, 1 land. I got run over by a truck. Then second game was reverse mana screw. I was playing against my buddy Rob which made it 5 times worse. OMG!

First round, I am sitting there waiting... and the dude comes up, with a mildew smelling briefcase, a homepod sound dock, an iPod, and starts playing music for EVERYONE to hear. Like, his own pump music. It was weird. I trounced him two games.

Third round, I nearly decked myself twice. First game within five cards. Second game, won on a Karn's Temporal Sundering to draw my last card and had my team win it for me. Good god

MVP of the day for me:  Tatyova, Benthic Druid. So broken, so good.
Runner up for MVP: Muldrotha, the Gravetide

Got 2 packs for my trouble.

Promo rare was a Clifftop Retreat. Pointless.

Going in, I was hoping for a blue/red Wizards matters deck. I was hoping NOT to play a Green saproling matters deck. I got both of my wishes actually. I wound up playing an artifacts matters deck.

Pre-release deck

Round notes as I sent to friends:

Round One:
Took first round with Thran gateway doing the work. The sagas have been huge so far.
The rare blade crushed it as well.

Round Two:
Took second round 2-1, third game was mana screwed. First I got there by removing threats and using his creatures to beat him over the head.
Second game I got beat by flyers.

Round Three:
Lost round three, 2-1.

First game couldn't get enough blockers out. Stupid saperlings.
Second game, big stupid dragon crashed in.
Third game, too top heavy. Couldn't stop 2/2

Round Four:
Dude was BEAT, so we split and got 2 packs each. He took a quick look at my deck and said I would have crushed him. Possible.

When I was opening, I knew blue was a huge factor, and black was drawing me in. I thought about splashing red. Turns out, I just cut it. The Thran Temporal Gateway allowed me to blink in my Legendary cards. The Forebear's Blade was equally huge. Vigilance made a world of difference.

I had pretty darn good card drawing as well- The Antiquites War, 2x Divination, and Dark Bargain.

One thing I read wrong was the Garna, the Bloodflame.  I thought if I just brought it in, my creatures which died would comeback to the battlefield. Not so much, they came back to my hand. Whoops. I should have been playing Tatyova, Benthic Druid. That card is just BUSTED. Play a land, gain life, and oh, draw a card. Duh.
