If I had waited?

As I acquire new pieces to my collection, I often think- "Was that a good deal verses today?"

Very rarely can we go back to the original trade, pull out the cards, and compare to today's prices/values. However, Card Kingdom allows you to do JUST THAT.

According to my CK account- I received 391.39 in credit for cards I submitted on June 20th, 2020. From which, I bought a good condition Volcanic Island for $324.99 on June 26th 2020. I had to wait 3 weeks for CK to get a version in for me to select from. Yes, it took that long for CK to get the cards in.

At the time I was happy to get the card. I blogged about it! Everything was awesome sauce and the Volcanic kept going up! Wow. Value town.

However, something kept eating at me until today- what about the cards I shipped in? How did I do? Did I lose value, did I screw over CK? (seriously doubtful) Would I regret shipping some of those cards?

Answering my last question first, there might have been 1-2 cards I 'might have' been able to use as SB cards in decks I cared about. Otherwise, did not care. At no point did I attempt to put together a deck and wish I had those cards back.

I pulled my old trade list from CK, and resubmitted to see what the change in values would have been. Some cards they were not even accepting, such as Dream Halls. Some cards went WAY up, Bonus Round and Ulamog. Most did not lose value.

After putting everything I could back in, my theoretical trade value of that June 2020 card list would have been:

$615

I "lost" $224 in value!!!! OH NO! CK screwed me!

Wait wait wait.... consider what I got as well- a good condition Volcanic Island. How much does CK price that card at now? If they have them in, they request $629.99 for them

Oh.

I would have been $15 short if I had shipped the same cards off today and assuming the prices didn't change again. (Note- I believe if CK had accepted my Dream Halls, I think this would have pushed me over the threshold easily, but I can't play what-if on top of what-if.)

While I could have waited and seen my cards go up- the card I was targeting also went up MORE than the cards I was attempting to ship out. In this case, from a value standpoint, I did good. However, the bigger pat on the back was that I got a card I needed/wanted for a format I like and decks I like.

My current goal is to acquire one more Volcanic in the next year somehow- could be a reach goal. I also need to acquire some more fetch lands. With MH2 pumping out 3 different modes of enemy fetches, I see my chance to get the holes in my legal fetch lands to get filled for a decent price. (I'm looking at you Misty Rainforrest!!!!)
