Here is me opening the box. First thing- yes, I opened the box for fun. Not for the things I needed/wanted. I am a HUGE proponent of buying the singles you need for constructed decks. Don't depend on packs to get what you need.
Second, I was lucky. Not hugely but lucky yes. I got a Ragavan which is the case mythic of the set. I will not be playing him because I won't have the deck to support him. Usually some sort of Delver shell. Not my game. (update- he was traded more in a minute)
Third, did I get my actual money's worth from the box?
Fourth, how much did I pay for the box?
I could keep going, I paid $220 from www.thecollectorstore.com. Good site, VERY solid shipping. All around good experience. Happy I found it. If you can locate a set booster box for under $220, good! Right now, thats the price it is at.
Did I break even? Yes. May have gone slightly over the price I paid, but I did wind up with cards I needed/wanted. And somehow wound up with extra fetch lands. Again, will wait for the values of fetches to go back up before trading any "bonus" ones. I didn't price it all out, but I did well enough that I feel good about it.
Lastly, I traded the Ragavan for- 1 Misty Rainforest, 2 Marsh Flats, and a Luminarch Aspirant. Which, at the time I did the trade, was DEAD on value according to TCG market. Everyone wants the damn thing for Legacy and Modern. Hot card indeed. Glad to have cards I will more likely use or maybe trade in the future after MH2 is out of print- whenever that is.
