two weeks of red stompy

The previous two weeks I ran slightly different versions of stompy. First was on 6/18, I went over to Game Haven just because I had the Wednesday off... I didn't know how long it would be, but having the next day off allowed a stress free test.

Here is the version of stompy I ran. Less Moons, more roadbumps and card draw with 4 Rings.

Round 1 (after a mix up of players... it happens)
Lands with field of the dead

I honestly don't recall the game specifics. I think I won 2-1... It felt pretty darn good. Its a matchup I wish I had more moons.

Round 2 vs the Mirror

The other player is well known to me, and we trade ideas... he plays WAY more than I do, so its more me asking questions. However, he realized through game 1 that he miss built his deck and did not have enough lands in it. Which explains why I was able to survive a double Ring play and still win

Game 2 I believe he got COMPLETELY mana hosed and I just had to laugh. I knew any Fable Goblin had to be killed, which happened. It felt good even if he messed up his own mana base.

Round 3 vs Ryan F on Frog-scam

We wound up splitting so he could eat, and I could go home. We played a game for fun, and I really didn't know the match up at all. He as basically scam with Psychic Frog.  I was way too aggressive and it showed.

I took my winnings and got a few cards I was aiming for, namely my first Planar Nexus. Need to get the set so I can build out KarnPost- or a version of it.

Before my most recent results I did get some cards in trade via CardSphere. They all have reasons for various deck ideas or needs.

Quick run down-

Kozzilek's Command for a possible Eldrazi stompy deck
Witch Enchanter because its good for possible decks
Bloodstained Mire, finally getting them
Leyline of Sanctity- just completing a matched set. Hate having different versions.
Urza's Towers because I literally just traded mine a month before the release of MH3. That should teach me never to trade them. Another way to produce turn 2 Karn with two lands.
Hogaak, because I didn't realize he was under $1. Ha.

I also spent a grand total of $5.50 to pick up some copies of Sundering Eruption for my Moon Stompy. I wanted to take out the Den of the Bugbear, and it also swapped out two of the Shatterskull Smashing.
The dual effect of the Sundering sorcery side was pretty good in my opinion. The mana bases of these decks right now are VERY greedy. Moons with the ability to remove likely their only basic feels pretty good.

Here is the deck list I wound up running at Level Up's weekly, 26 player jamming.

Round 1 vs Chris P on 3 color delver

Game 1 I got a Moon down fairly early, followed up by a Sundering Eruption to remove his single basic island... he thought about it for a minute and scooped. I kinda felt bad for him as he cast two brainstorms, two ponders, and just couldn't find action. He couldn't beat what I had, and he didn't have any other basics. Felt good.

Game 2 I got my first couple plays counted, and quickly didn't have much of anything- but he didn't have a ton either other than a flipped delver beating me up. I thought I had a window to turn it around, but that ended when he showed me 2 lightning bolts for my face. Damn.

Game 3 It felt good- He forced my turn one Chalice, which is fine. But my turn two Blood Moon just locked him up. He didn't have a fetch up and no countermagic. That was pretty much all she wrote after I dropped a turn 3 Rabblemaster and turn 4 Broadside.

Round 2 vs 3 color delver again, with frog this time  (note- never saw frog)
Newer legacy player, I could tell he was a bit nervous. Which is fine... but also gave me a little confidence knowing I likely knew the match-up better.

Game 1  A turn one Chalice kept things in check. Even with a wasteland on my tomb, I still managed to have plenty of mana and dropped a Blood Moon to make things even harder. Took it down pretty quickly.

Game 2 I mulliganed a hand with no real lands in hand, my second 7 I made a mistake and bottomed a basic mountain. That proved to be my downfall. Quickly scooping after he made pork pie out of my face with lighting bolts. I tried, he just had a commanding presence.

Game 3 Was back and forth sort of game. I was able to land a turn 2 Moon after a Chalice which I should have known meant he had a Meltdown- ugh. Damn. Well- the first one didn't crush my soul, just my Chrome Mox and Chalice. It was the second Meltdown that got all my treasure that could have been awful... He had just landed a delver after starting to beat me with a Dragon Rage Channeler, when I topped a Fury. Never have I counted lands so fast- FIVE LANDS! Muhahahaha... hard cast and hope he doesn't force... oh thank god he did not have the mana nor the second blue card for it. WHEW.  Got there

Round 3 vs Gene on lands at seat 1

We agreed to split and I went home because I was worried about some nasty storms on their way.

In the case at Level up- you know, something to shoot for with all the store credit I have. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
