The card on the left was from Oath of the Gatewatch released in 2016.
The card on the right was from Antiquities released in 1993.
Why did Magic change their backs so much? When did this happen? I noticed it when I got back into the game in about 2015/6. I didn't understand why the new backs were so much lighter/less contrast.
Both pass the green dot test. Thus both were printed with offset printers... but what caused the backs to change so much over time?
