DC Grand Prix, part 3 overall

I just wanted to give my "first timers" overall experience at Grand Prix.

As I was not attending for any specific reason, I was left a bit wandering. However, I have a list of impressions it left me with.

  • I was honestly surprised to hear/see foreign players at the event, both Japanese and Italian. They had come directly from the airport or their hotel with suitcases in tow.
  • The ebb and flow of different vendor booths was a tad confusing to someone who had never been to this sort of thing
  • A local store to me, MTG First, had the most disorderly booth from what I could tell
  • I was surprised at the LINE for SCG to review cards for trade/buying. Heck, every booth had a trade/buy area
  • It was generally hard to hear announcements, too much low buzz
  • Several people were dressed up for the event, not just cosplayers, but people dressed VERY nicely
  • Most people seemed very nice, and curious to what was going on
  • I was pleasantly surprised to observe a Commander play group who was given 'play points' each, but they were only to be given to another player who was nice. Interesting method of incentivising nice play
  • VERY odd to walk up to the building and the very first person I recognized was Brad Nelson outside in the smokers area telling stories
  • Again, Magic players, you are not helping anyone when you don't clean yourself. Seriously. Spend five minutes and just think about personal hygiene
  • The artist area was nice, I just wish I had something to ask them. *sad face*
  • I was shocked at how many people would lay down 20 or so cards for signatures, I shouldn't have been, but was

I think those are the overall impressions I had. Last story.

I met up with a buddy of mine who was taking part in the Legacy challenges, his preferred format. We decided before I left that we should do a Pack War with the cheapest Modern Masters 2017 pack we could find. Turned out to be a decent deal of $8.50, and thrown in was two packs of sleeves. Sure why not. Good for mailers I suppose.
We play, I get him down to 8 life, then his cards take over and crushed me. Whaa-whaaaaaaa. My rare was Terminus. Eh, meh. My buddies rare was a Misty Rainforest. Damn! He also got in the same pack a Path to Exile AND an Inquisition of Kozilek. Geeshy Peezy. What an impressive set of cards! Massive value and he crushed my deck. Doh.
